10 Exercises to Help you Lose the Last Few Pounds

One of my favorite things to do when I am training in the gym is ‘people watching’… especially when I’m doing cardio. There’s one thing I’ve realized during my extensive career as a people watcher… every gym tends to have two types of people.

Type 1: The socialite

Here is how it goes:
They do 10 reps, check the gram, check email, check Snapchat, take a selfie, go take a sip of water, get caught up talking to half of the gym, and theeen do another set.

They ended up spending about 1hr in the gym and out of that hour only about 15-20 minutes was actually training.
(I am sure this is NOT you!)

Type 2: The Hustler

These are the people who are there on a mission and who want who really want to make the most out of their time in the gym and push themselves. They are always training hard, and always seem to be “on a mission”.

I feel like most of you reading this blog will fall into the “Gym Hustler” category… and, if you feel like that despite all your hard work and efforts it seems like you’re always on a race against the clock to make sure you get a good workout with the limited time that you have.

I want to let you know that you are NOT alone!

This is one of the biggest problems most of the ladies in my community talk about, and they feel like the time limitation is hindering their results. It’s holding them back from achieving their goals and losing those last few pounds from the holidays.

Don’t you worry boo, I gotchu!

I will be sharing my top 10 moves to help you lose those extra few pounds, even when time is against you. In fact, the idea for this blog came from when I was putting together my workouts for the days I had very limited time and wanted to get more bang for my buck.

And before you say “Nathalia… I train from home and won’t have the equipment to do these exercises!”

All you need to do these awesome moves and kick your workout up a notch is your own body and LOTS of energy… No fancy equipment is needed. All of these exercises can be done from home or from the gym. Easy peasy.

Weight Loss Tips to Try from HOME!

Adding these exercises in between sets or in a circuit with 2 or 3 other exercises is a great way to add extra calorie burning to your routine in less time.

Some of the movements I will show you below (crunches and planks, for example) can be used as an active rest.

Active rest is when you don’t use your rest time to just sit on a bench and wait to recover, but you do a less intense movement for a different body from what you are working on.

I personally love adding intensity to my workout as I get bored and distracted quite easily. So these moves help me stay focused. Most of the programs I do for the ladies I coach will include some kind of active rest and intense movements to suit their fitness levels.

Now enough with the talking and let’s reveal what these 10 calorie-burning moves are.

10 Tips to help you lose the last few pounds

1. Box Jumps

You can use a set of stairs, a bench, or a couch if you are training from home.

2. Jumping Rope

Even if you don’t have a rope, just mimicking the movement will get your heart rate going.

3. Squat Jumps

I love these bad boys, and I could honestly write a whole blog on different squat jumps variations.

4. Burpees

No need for introductions on this one, but we all know they are a great calorie-torching tool.

5. Step Ups

Step-ups are a very good low-impact alternative to keep the intensity up.

6. Crunches

Crunches are the perfect exercise for Active Rest like we were talking about above.

7. Planks

There are loads of variations for planks, but to keep things simple we will just go with a regular plank as this is another movement I could write a whole blog about their variations.

8. Walking Lunges

Walking lunges are a great lower body movement, and a great one to bring your heart rate up too. There are also a few different variations for walking lunges, but for this specific blog, we will just demonstrate regular walking lunges. They are also a great low impact alternative.

9. Air Squats

Air Squats are like those little kids’ toys that look very cute at first and when you squeeze they look like evil creatures! Do you know which ones I am talking about?? Seriously!
The first 10-15 air squats, we are like “we got this!” but as time passes they start to become nearly impossible! Lol…

They are a very functional movement and a great low-impact alternative.

10. Mountain Climber

I personally have a love and hate relationship with mountain climbers. They literally kick my ass like crazy… and, that’s exactly why they made it to the list!

Guess what, it doesn’t end there! To help you get the most out of your workout, I’ve created a video to help you perform these moves. Watch the video below.
