She had the credentials. She had the committees. She had the career. And she still walked into a room full of her peers and felt like a fraud.
In this episode of The Unfiltered Fit Life, I sit down with Katie, a dentist, lifelong athlete, and Powerhouse Academy member, and we talk about what actually happens when a high achieving woman stops feeling comfortable in her body - and what shifts when she finally addresses it.
Katie is not someone who needed to lose 100 pounds. She is someone who had been athletic her whole life, who knew what to do, and who still found herself shrinking in the professional settings she had worked incredibly hard to be part of. Sound familiar?
In this episode, we talk about:
- Why competence alone stopped being enough in high level professional settings
- How she realized her body confidence was quietly costing her at work
- What it felt like to walk into a national council meeting and feel like a fraud
- Why she had been following Nathalia for years before finally reaching out
- What made her skeptical and what finally made her commit
- How individualized coaching is different from every other program she tried
- What happened to her dental practice revenue in the two months after joining
- How removing the mental load around food and workouts changed her energy
This is not a weight loss story. It is a story about what it costs a high achieving woman to not feel like herself - and what becomes possible when she does. If you have ever over-delivered at work to compensate for how you felt about yourself, this episode is for you.

Imposter Syndrome, Body Confidence, and Career Success: Katie's Story
INTRODUCTION
Nathalia introduces Katie, a dentist, lifelong swimmer, half marathon runner, and Powerhouse Academy member. She frames the conversation as one that will resonate with high achieving women who identify as athletes and self-starters but feel stuck. Katie gives a brief background on her life, career, and athletic history including swimming in high school, water polo in college, and running half marathons.
WHAT WAS HAPPENING WHEN SHE REACHED OUT
Katie shares that a difficult year including the loss of her mother-in-law and a heavy travel schedule made it hard to manage her fitness and nutrition. Heavy involvement in dental industry committees and conferences added to the load. She describes feeling uncomfortable in her body and noticing it starting to show up in her professional life in ways she had not expected.
CONFIDENCE VERSUS COMPETENCE
Nathalia and Katie dig into the distinction between competence and confidence. Katie describes attending a major national dental council event and feeling like a fraud despite being highly qualified. She shares how she shut down, questioned her outfit, and got in her own head in a way she had never experienced before. She names the pressure of being a younger woman in a room of highly respected peers and feeling the need to prove she deserved to be there - with an important council meeting coming up in April that she wants to be ready for.
OVERWORKING TO COMPENSATE
Katie acknowledges that she had likely overdelivered and out-worked her way into the positions she holds as a way of compensating for a lack of visible confidence. Nathalia connects this to the pattern she sees constantly with high achieving women who prove themselves through output and behind-the-scenes work rather than presence and voice in the room.
WHY SHE WAS SKEPTICAL
Katie explains that the biggest barrier to joining was the unknown. She had followed Nathalia on Instagram for a long time but was used to programs that lay everything out upfront with a clear price and a clear promise. The discovery call process felt unfamiliar at first and her husband questioned why she had to have two calls before even signing up. She eventually reached a point of not caring about the cost and just wanting to find out if it could work for her.
WHAT MADE HER COMMIT
Katie credits the depth of the initial conversations with Nathalia for her decision to join. She describes Nathalia drawing out feelings she did not realize were connected to her struggles with nutrition and fitness. Nobody had ever asked her those kinds of questions before, and the process helped her understand herself in a way that made the decision easy.
HOW THE PROGRAM IS DIFFERENT
Katie breaks down what sets Powerhouse Academy apart from everything she has tried before. She highlights the accessibility of the coaches - available when she needs them rather than checking messages once a week - the truly individualized meal and workout plans, and the way the program is built around her actual life rather than asking her to redesign her existence to fit a template. She notes that nobody had ever asked questions like these before the first call.
SUPPORT WHILE TRAVELING
Katie talks about working with Kara, the registered dietitian on the Powerhouse Academy team, to navigate eating out while traveling. She describes how having someone help her find options on a restaurant menu or adjust her timing around a flight made consistency feel manageable for the first time instead of an all-or-nothing situation.
THE WINS
Katie shares her physical wins including scrubs that now fit differently - pulling out the waistband on pants she had always worn as a small - and Lululemon shorts she bought in a smaller size last March, gave up on, and recently tried on again to find they fit. Beyond the physical, she shares that her dental practice had its two strongest months since she joined. Her husband noticed the shift before she did and connected it directly to a change in how she was showing up - not just personally but professionally.
ENERGY AND MENTAL LOAD
Katie reflects on how removing the mental gymnastics around food and workouts has freed up cognitive space she did not realize she was burning. She describes feeling genuinely excited about her meals and how the structure of the program has naturally improved her time management without her having to actively work on it. Less decision fatigue, more energy, more presence at work.
COMMUNITY
Katie describes herself as a creeper in the Powerhouse Academy WhatsApp group - someone who reads everything and likes messages hours later without always posting. She talks about how powerful it is to be surrounded by women who treat early morning workouts and meal prepping as completely normal, especially when that mindset is hard to find in her direct environment. Individualized care inside a real community is something she had not experienced in any other program.
ADVICE FOR WOMEN ON THE FENCE
Katie's advice is simple: give Nathalia the chance to get to know you. She says the discovery conversation alone will teach you something about yourself, and that the depth of that initial call is just a preview of the kind of support and accountability that continues throughout the program. She closes by saying the checkpoints that go deeper over time are what have kept her going.
