Nathalia [00:00:01]:
Hello, hello there, fam! Welcome to another episode of the Unfiltered Fit Life Podcast. I'm Nathalia Mello, your host.

Podcast Growth and Success
Nathalia [00:00:39]:
I was recently looking at our analytics, and I’m thrilled to share that in the past year, our downloads have more than doubled! This is incredible because the data says that most podcasts don’t make it past seven episodes.
Podcasting is hard work in the beginning. It’s a lot of effort upfront, and at first, it feels like nobody is listening. But I knew in my heart that if even one person listened and had their life changed by the message in this podcast, my job was done.
This podcast isn’t just my success; it’s our success. The fact that you’re here, giving me your time, means so much.
Your Input Matters
Nathalia [00:02:07]:
This is our podcast, not just mine! So if there’s a topic you’d like me to cover, send me a message on Instagram or email me through the fan mail link in the show notes. I love hearing from you!
Now, let’s dive into today’s topic: Why saying "I’ll try" is holding you back.
The Problem with Saying "I’ll Try"
Why This Topic?
Nathalia [00:02:37]:
Funny enough, I had a different topic planned for today, but something happened that made me change course. (This happens a lot!)
Today’s episode is for anyone who says:
✔️ “I’m trying to eat healthier.”
✔️ “I’m trying to get back on track.”
✔️ “I hope I can work out more.”
If that sounds like you, keep listening!
The Pattern in Conversations
Nathalia [00:04:17]:
I was chatting with people in my DMs today, and I noticed a pattern. Here are some examples of real messages I received (paraphrased, of course):
🔹 “I’m trying to be mindful of my intake and monitoring my food with an app. I used to train four times a week, but now I’m trying to go six times. I hope that helps.”
🔹 “The goal is to start moving more and hopefully lose fat. I’ll try to reduce my snacks too.”
🔹 “I’m trying to drink more water and hoping to eat healthier.”
Do you see the pattern? Trying. Hoping. No commitment.
Why "Trying" and "Hoping" Are Keeping You Stuck
False Sense of Productivity
Nathalia [00:07:01]:
Saying “I’m trying” makes you feel productive, but in reality, it’s just a mental trick. It convinces you that progress is happening when in fact, you’re just delaying real action.
I call this mental masturbation. 🫣 You’re giving yourself a false sense of accomplishment without actually doing anything.
No Urgency = No Results
Nathalia [00:11:23]:
When you say, “I’m trying,” it’s open-ended. There’s no deadline, no urgency, and no real commitment.
Would this work in your job? Imagine telling your boss:
💼 “I’m trying to finish this project. I hope it gets done.”
Yeah, no. That wouldn’t fly! 🚩
Yet, we allow this vague, non-committal language in our fitness and personal goals.
No Clear Plan or Strategy
Nathalia [00:13:20]:
Hoping things will improve doesn’t work because there’s no plan.
❌ "I’m trying to eat better." → What does that actually mean?
❌ "I’m hoping to work out more." → How often? Where? When?
❌ "I’m going to get back on track." → What steps are you taking today?
How to Shift from "Trying" to "Doing"
1. Set Clear, Measurable Goals
Instead of:
❌ “I’m trying to eat healthier.”
✅ Say: “I’ll have protein in every meal and meal prep on Sundays.”
Instead of:
❌ “I want to work out more.”
✅ Say: “I will work out Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 7 AM.”
2. Schedule and Plan Like You Would for Work
You don’t hope to show up for work—you just do.
You don’t try to take care of your kids—you just do.
Treat your fitness like a non-negotiable appointment.
3. Track Your Progress with Data
If you don’t track it, how do you know you’re improving?
✔️ If you want to lose fat: Track weight, measurements, and photos.
✔️ If you want to get stronger: Track how much you’re lifting.
✔️ If you want to move more: Track your steps.
Feelings alone aren’t enough. We need objective data!
4. Create Non-Negotiables for Yourself
Having clear non-negotiables makes decision-making easier.
Examples:
✔️ "I will train at least 3 times a week."
✔️ "I will drink 100 oz of water daily."
✔️ "I will hit at least 5,000 steps a day."
If you don’t define what’s important to you, others will fill your schedule for you.
The Mindset Shift: Commit Like You Do in Other Areas of Life
Successful People Take Action
💡 High-achievers don’t hope for career success—they take action.
💡 A strong marriage doesn’t just happen—you work at it.
💡 Raising kids requires effort and consistency.
Your fitness is no different!
Final Thoughts: Stop Hoping, Start Doing
Hope is passive. It removes you from the equation.
Trying leaves room for failure. It makes quitting acceptable.
The difference between successful people and those who stay stuck? Execution.
🔹 Instead of: "I hope I can stay consistent this time."
✅ Say: "I will follow this plan and adjust as needed."
🔹 Instead of: "I’ll try to find time to work out."
✅ Say: "I will schedule my workouts like I schedule my meetings."
Your language matters. Change your words, change your results.
Your Homework 🎯
Catch yourself when you say “I hope” or “I’m trying” and replace it with an action statement.
Then, send me a message on Instagram and let me know if you caught yourself! I’d love to hear about your mindset shift.
