Why “I Know What To Do” Is Keeping You Stuck

Why “I Know What To Do” Is Keeping You Stuck

How many times have you said, “I know what to do, I just need more consistency”? If knowing were enough, you’d already have results. The truth is, you don’t have a consistency problem, you have a strategy problem.

In this week’s episode of The Unfiltered Fit Life, I explain why “I know what to do” is one of the most dangerous lies women tell themselves and why it keeps you stuck in the same cycle.

Here’s what you’ll learn:

  • Why your old fitness strategies don’t fit your current season of life

  • How “consistency issues” are symptoms, not root causes

  • Why discipline and motivation aren’t the magic fix you think they are

  • The real solution: clarity, specificity, strategy, and execution systems that match your lifestyle today

  • How to simplify, stop overcomplicating, and actually implement what works

This episode is a wake-up call: if you’ve been chasing consistency, motivation, or discipline, you’re solving the wrong problem.

The podcast transcript for this episode of the Unfiltered Fit Life podcast follows

Why “I Know What To Do” Is Keeping You Stuck

Nathalia Melo [00:01]
Hello, hello fam! Today we’re talking about a line I hear nonstop: “I know what to do… I’m just not doing it.” Or, “I just need more accountability/consistency/discipline.”
If I had a dollar every time—retired tomorrow. Trillionaire.
⚠️ Heads up: colorful language ahead.

Knowing ≠ Doing

Nathalia Melo [02:03]
We live in an information buffet—Google, Pinterest, social, podcasts, even ChatGPT. The issue isn’t information. It’s implementation. If knowing were enough, everyone would be shredded and thriving.

How That “I Know What To Do” Story Beats You Up

Nathalia Melo [04:27]
That story turns into: “I’m lazy. I lack discipline. I can’t follow through.” Not true. Often, you’re just using an old strategy that doesn’t fit this season of life.

Seasons of Life Matter (Olympia to Now)

Nathalia Melo [06:48]
Back when I won the Olympia, my life was different—no kids, long-distance relationship, flexible work. Hours to train. Now? Kids, husband, three businesses, a team, a parent abroad with health issues.
It’s not laziness—it’s a different reality. Old plan ≠ current season.

The All-or-Nothing Trap

Nathalia Melo [08:56]
“I know what to do” often means repeating extremes that only worked when life was simpler: 6–7 training days, 1,000 cals, perfection during the week → crash on weekends.
You can’t hold yourself to a plan you can’t sustain.

Information Overload → Paralysis

Nathalia Melo [13:37]
Vegan vs. carnivore. Breakfast or skip it. Zone 2 vs. HIIT. 10,000 steps. Macros. You’re drowning in contradictions and mistaking noise for knowledge. That creates paralysis by analysis.

What’s Actually Missing

Nathalia Melo [24:03]

  1. Clarity — Vibes aren’t metrics. “I eat clean” means nothing without specifics.

  2. Specificity — Ditch jargon. “Watch portions” isn’t a plan.

  3. Strategy — A plan for your life now (kids, travel, work, hormones).

  4. Execution Systems — Simple, repeatable steps that remove friction.

25 Minutes Beats Zero

Nathalia Melo [22:15]
Stop waiting for perfect 60-minute sessions. If you’ve got 25 minutes, use them. Three 20–25 minute workouts/week done consistently > a fantasy five-day, 60-minute plan you never do.

Consistency Is a Symptom, Not the Cause

Nathalia Melo [31:29]
Lack of consistency usually means the plan is shady (too hard, too long, misaligned). Motivation/discipline problems? Often symptoms of a plan that doesn’t fit your reality.

The Finance Analogy

Nathalia Melo [34:26]
“Wealth = spend less than you make.” True—but how do you do that with loans, childcare, real life? Same with fitness. The concept is simple. The implementation is the skill.

The Uber Analogy

Nathalia Melo [36:02]
Telling your driver “take me somewhere happy” isn’t a destination. You need directions (steps, map, fuel). In fitness, you need a clear, step-by-step plan that fits today.

Bottom Line

Nathalia Melo [36:51]
Knowing what to do ≠ knowing how to do it now.
Consistency, motivation, discipline—often symptoms of a bad fit strategy.

Proof It’s Strategy (Not You)

Nathalia Melo [41:36]
Inside Powerhouse Academy, we simplify—that’s why clients stay consistent. Ashley, mom of six, dropped 15 lbs in 9 weeks while traveling. Not because of extremes—because the plan fit her life.

Final Truth & Next Step

Nathalia Melo [38:31 | 42:26]
If your body hasn’t changed in months/years, that’s proof knowing isn’t enough. It’s not laziness—it’s a strategy gap.
Action: Stop collecting tips. Build clarity, specificity, a season-appropriate strategy, and simple execution systems.
