The podcast transcript for this episode of the Unfiltered Fit Life podcast follows
Nathalia [00:00:00]:
Welcome to another episode of the Unfiltered Fit Life podcast. I'm Natalia Mello, and today, I’m here with an incredible couple, Brittany and Matt. Brittany is a member of the PowerHouse Academy, and her husband Matt—who’s also a fitness professional—is joining us for a special conversation.
Nathalia [00:00:23]:
When Brittany first mentioned that Matt was in the fitness industry, I had a moment of hesitation—because if you’ve been in this space long enough, you’ve met the egos. But Matt was nothing like what I expected. They were both kind, open, and wonderful to speak with.
Brittany’s Struggles After Motherhood
Nathalia [00:01:15]:
Brittany, let’s rewind to our first conversation. What was going on for you at the time?
Brittany [00:01:31]:
I was feeling lost. After having our two kids, I gained a lot of weight—especially during COVID. I lost some weight on my own but felt stuck. I didn’t know how to eat for my goals. I felt uncomfortable, insecure, and disconnected from myself.
Matt’s Perspective as Her Husband
Nathalia [00:02:42]:
Matt, how did it feel watching Brittany go through that?
Matt [00:03:09]:
It was heartbreaking. It affected our relationship too—her confidence and how she felt around me. I wanted to help, especially being in fitness, but it’s different with your wife. It was good to see her find her own light again.
Feeling Beautiful Starts from Within
Nathalia [00:04:02]:
Brittany, did Matt’s reassurance help you at the time, or was it more about how you felt?
Brittany [00:04:52]:
It was really about how I felt. He’d tell me I was beautiful, but when you don’t feel it yourself, it doesn’t land the same way.
Nathalia [00:05:14]:
Matt, did it take time to understand that difference?
Matt [00:05:29]:
Yes, it took communication. I didn’t realize at first that my reassurance wasn’t enough. But I could tell she wasn’t in a good place—and that it was time for her to focus on herself again.
The Turning Point
Nathalia [00:06:46]:
Brittany, what was the moment you realized something had to change?
Brittany [00:07:14]:
I was listening to your podcast with Coach Jen about how negative self-talk impacts our kids, especially daughters. That hit me. I knew I had to be a better example. I wasn’t just doing it for me—I needed to change for them too.
Matt [00:08:46]:
I could tell she was hungry for change. She started your challenge, saw results right away, and it lit a fire in her.
Communication and Openness
Nathalia [00:09:19]:
Brittany, did you struggle to express how you were feeling?
Brittany [00:09:29]:
No, not really. We’re very open with each other—I keep him very well informed.
Nathalia [00:10:00]:
Matt, did you feel there were unspoken things or was she open from your perspective?
Matt [00:11:11]:
She was open. I knew where she was emotionally. I’ve been in similar spots myself, so I could relate. Her transparency helped.
Navigating Ego in the Fitness Industry
Nathalia [00:11:56]:
Matt, how was it for you to step back and not be “the coach” in this situation?
Matt [00:13:10]:
It wasn’t hard for me. I’ve been in the industry long enough to know where my limits are. I didn’t have the answers for her nutrition or needs as a woman. I was happy she found something that worked—and it took the pressure off of me.
Brittany [00:13:59]:
He used to train me when we first started dating. Eventually, he had to stop because I wasn’t the easiest client.
Changes After Joining the Program
Nathalia [00:15:04]:
Brittany, you’re about eight weeks in. What has changed?
Brittany [00:16:21]:
So much. My skin, my clothes, the scale—yes—but also my confidence. I feel like myself again. Even our intimacy has improved. I feel like I’m walking taller.
Matt [00:17:54]:
Her confidence is the biggest difference. She’s not hiding from me anymore. It’s brought us closer together in a real way.
Sustainable Success Over Quick Fixes
Nathalia [00:19:28]:
Had you tried other fitness programs before?
Brittany [00:19:47]:
I did Beachbody and similar programs, but they weren’t personalized or sustainable. I didn’t stick with them because there was no real investment or support.
Nathalia [00:20:39]:
What feels different with this program?
Brittany [00:21:01]:
Everything. It’s built for me. It works with my schedule as a mom and teacher. It’s sustainable, supported, and detailed. That’s made all the difference.
The Power of Simplicity and Support
Matt [00:22:53]:
It’s more organized. Her meals, workouts—everything is laid out. She’s set up for success, and I just piggyback off her prep. It’s easier when we eat the same things and support each other.
Brittany [00:23:56]:
Even the workouts are simple and effective. I can do them at home or the gym. It’s all manageable.
On Investment and Value
Nathalia [00:24:49]:
I know this isn’t the cheapest program—and I don’t want it to be. What would you say to someone hesitant because of the cost?
Brittany [00:26:01]:
It’s worth every single penny. Make it work however you can. It’s been truly life changing.
Matt [00:27:06]:
Happy wife, happy life. Seeing her happy and confident has made it worth it. It’s strengthened our relationship and improved her well-being—and that’s priceless.
A Stronger Relationship Through Confidence
Nathalia [00:28:21]:
What’s been your biggest shared accomplishment from this experience?
Matt [00:28:51]:
Just the closeness and communication. Her confidence has shifted everything—from how we connect daily to our intimacy. It affects every part of our life.
Brittany [00:29:35]:
It’s true. I feel more confident, which helps in every area—including intimacy.
Nathalia [00:29:56]:
I wish more partners understood how important that kind of support is. What you two have is a great example of partnership.
Matt [00:30:50]:
Thank you.
Brittany [00:30:51]:
We agree.
Nathalia [00:30:52]:
Thank you both so much. Brittany, you’re a light in our group—and Matt, we’re so grateful you trusted us. Can’t wait to see what’s next for you both.
Brittany [00:32:01]:
It’s been life changing. I can’t thank the whole team enough.
Nathalia [00:32:07]:
See you in the group!
